Remember, pets age much more rapidly than people (approximately 7 times for dogs and five times for cats) and some age related diseases caught in the early stages can often be controlled through medications and even simple dietary changes. We recommend annual wellness exam for all pets. Our wellness exams are designed to ensure both the detection and prevention of potential diseases. Wellness exams may include:

  • Nutrition
  • Vaccinations
  • Dental Care
  • Pet Health
  • Supplements
  • Laboratory Testing

Senior Wellness – While we can’t prevent everything, yearly exams and discussions with Dr. Danielle Rowe can help catch early signs of disease and and hopefully detected early enough to initiate therapy. Occasionally the team will recommend blood work to use as a window into internal health and sure that organs are functioning properly.

We use a digital X-ray machine to help diagnose some of the following disease in a few minutes.

  • skeletal diseases (such as fractures, luxations and tumours),
  • disease that affects the chest cavity such as asthma, pneumonia, lung collapse, tracheal collapse, heart enlargement, heart failure.
  • disease that affects the abdominal cavity such as foreign body ingestion, bladder stones, liver disease, fluid in the abdomen Etc.

Obesity is becoming an epidemic in the companion animal world, we want to make sure all our pets live a long comfortable life and nutrition is paramount to this goal. Not only is obesity an issue but disease across many age groups can be managed with the help of a proper balanced diet. Did you know that spaying your dog prior to her first heat cycle can decrease her risk of mammary cancer by less than 2% while waiting for them to go through three cycles increases the risk by 2/3. Did you also know that male dogs like to roam if they’re intact? They’re looking for a mate which increases the risk of exposure to disease, getting hit by car, lost or even stolen. These and many more reasons are why the team wants to encourage owners asked questions about spaying and neutering. These tend to be day procedures that help extend our pets lives long term.

Dental health is an important part of your pet’s general health and happiness. Doing regular cleanings can help keep your pets oral health in check but dental health can also contribute to overall well being. We offer free dental exams to ensure we stay on top of periodontal disease. What veterinarians worry about most is the disease happening below the gum line that we can’t see. Plaque, tartar and gingivitis seen on the crown of the tooth may be just the tip of the ice berg. Some pets will require more extensive therapy for advanced disease, we use digital dental X-rays to help get a clearer picture of what may be causing pain and discomfort below the surface.
